Coconut Fiber/Coco Coir

Also known as Coconut Coir, Coconut Fiber is a totally organic substance. It is made from shredded coconut husks which are ground up. These fibers are hormone-rich, reducing the chance of fungal growth and increasing the germination speed as well as root development. Coconut Fibers are a popular growing medium for Hydroponic growers these days, as it has the water retention of vermiculite and the air retention of perlite. The combination of these properties makes it an excellent medium for hydroponic growers. Coco Coir is available in many forms, compressed bricks being the most popular. These bricks have to be thoroughly rinsed before you can use it, as the Coconut fibers needs to expand and loosen up first.
