HPS(High Pressure Sodium)

High Pressure Sodium lights are favored by indoor gardeners because they cover a wide range of the color temperature spectrum. They are however mostly used in the plants reproductive (flowering) stage of growth. These systems produce mostly a red/orange spectrum of light which is ideal if you wish to enhance the fruiting and flowering process of plants. HPS systems really pack a punch when it comes to the light output per watt. They emit six times more light output per watt than a standard incandescent bulb. This allows growers with a power efficient option when growing indoors. These systems are known to produce a lot of heat, so one should take into consideration how close the bulb is to the plant to prevent heat stress. HPS lighting systems consists of a bulb, grow light reflector and ballasts. Additional cooling systems are also widely available.
